The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, together with Boston Medical Center (BMC), launched Curbside Care in 2023 to address inequities in postpartum care for women and their newborn babies. Because this work aligns directly with our mission, Point32Health is excited to be a presenting sponsor of this program that has helped more than 500 patients throughout the Greater Boston area to date. In our first joint program, representatives from the Shamrock Foundation, BMC and Point32Health, plus Celtics star Derrick White, came together at the Auerbach Center to co-host a Curbside Care celebration.

At Point32Health and our family of companies, we are proud to be a presenting sponsor of the Curbside Care Program with the Boston Celtics. We know that the Curbside Care mobile maternal and infant health unit is helping to reduce barriers to high-quality perinatal care for families in communities throughout Boston.

At the celebration, White handed out many infant care necessities to participating families, including car seats, baby clothes and diaper bags. The families also participated in a food and wellness workshop.

What is the Curbside Care program?

Curbside Care is a life-saving program that provides comprehensive health care to more than 40 postpartum patients and their newborns right outside their homes each week. Staffed by Boston Medical Center Pediatrics and Midwifery services, the Curbside Care mobile maternal and infant health unit provides patients with critical care including lactation support, screenings for material needs, screenings for postpartum depression, streamlined connection to primary care and more.

Research has shown that the first six weeks of the baby’s life, also known as the fourth trimester, can determine future health outcomes for both women and children. When a patient enrolls in the program, the mother and baby are visited at home by the mobile health care team three to four times during those first six weeks. Before the six weeks are up, Curbside Care coordinators work with the mothers to ensure continuity of care and schedule follow-up checkups for mother and baby in a clinic.

Point32Health & the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation

The Curbside Care program is part of the Boston Celtics United for Social Justice initiative, the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation’s (BCSF) $25-million, ten-year commitment to addressing racial injustice and social inequities in the Greater Boston area, with an emphasis on combating issues that impact Black and Brown communities, including inequities in health care.

As part of our commitment to addressing health inequities throughout our region and the communities we serve, Point32Health has established comprehensive programs and initiatives to directly address inequities in health care in Boston and throughout New England. Our partnership with the Boston Celtics United was first realized through our Spread the Health partnership, initially launched in 2021 to address health topics – mental health, food insecurity, health equity, maternal health and more – that impact the health and wellness of Black and Brown communities.
