Point32Health Colleagues Serve Communities Across New England During Inaugural Volunteer Week
More than 1,100 employee volunteers to serve at nearly 40 nonprofits throughout the region
CANTON, Mass. – More than 1,100 Point32Health colleagues are volunteering across New England this week to serve at more than 40 local nonprofits as part of the company’s inaugural Volunteer Week. Point32Health is the not-for-profit health care parent company of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan.
“I am incredibly proud to lead a health care organization where our colleagues express care and concern for one another and for the communities in which we live and work,” said Cain Hayes, CEO of Point32Health. “Supporting our communities is an important part of who we are and what we do. The ongoing pandemic reinforces how vital these nonprofit organizations are to our communities, and we have an opportunity to support the critical work they do every day.”
Colleagues signed up for more than 50 virtual and in-community activities across the region, including prepping and serving meals at local food pantries; harvesting produce from area farms; cleaning up local parks, trails, beaches and rivers; building beds for children in need; and writing notes and coloring posters for children and older adults. Volunteers will participate in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island —all the states Point32Health does business. Point32Health anticipates employee volunteers will complete approximately 2,500 service hours throughout the week.
“Volunteer Week is an extension of the work we do throughout the year to support, advocate and advance healthier lives for everyone,” said Nora Moreno Cargie, president of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan Foundations and vice president of Corporate Citizenship for Point32Health. “By listening to communities, we can be responsive to emerging needs. Our senior leaders and colleagues throughout the organization continue to step up, consistently giving back in meaningful ways.”
Throughout the fall, colleagues also are participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at nine locations to raise awareness and fundraise for Alzheimer’s Association’s services, support, and research. Last year, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care joined forces with the Tufts Health Plan team, making it the largest fundraising team in Massachusetts. Since 2012 the Tufts Health Plan team and Foundation have contributed more than $1.2 million to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Point32Health offers a robust employee service and giving program, including paid volunteer time off, company match programs for employee donations and service, a Colleague Needs Fund to support employees experiencing financial hardship, learn and serve events with local nonprofit organizations, and annual drives supporting organizations addressing the social determinants of health.
